Lesson summary: The Sixth Sense

Today's in lesson we all watched a documentary on the storyboard process for the sixth sense. The documentary contains the director (M. Night Shyamalan) talking about the planning stage and his thought process. He said that by using a storyboard he can visually prepare for the filming process. Story-boarding usually takes 12-16 weeks however it is a good preparation for when it comes to post production. The storyboards he creates are produced with great detail showing the type of shot, lighting and positioning of characters. By creating a storyboard it saves time and money as the director already knows what he wants to be shot.

By watching this documentary it has helped me understand the importance of story-boarding. It will allow my group to visualize our film and also help with the editing stage. Films made during post production would be more time consuming as you may have to re-shot some bits. Therefore, I think our group should start producing storyboards to make our post production easier and generally producing a better film overall.
